What changed for PSI exams in 2026

  • Booking window: PSI opens exam sessions at least 6 weeks in advance and recommends booking 4-6 weeks before your preferred date; appointments can typically be booked up to 1 day prior if space is available, and for programs that require board authorization, scheduling opens within 24-48 hours after PSI receives it. (source)
  • Reschedule and cancellation: PSI requires 2 business days' notice to rebook without penalty; many appointments can be changed by logging in to your account, and your licensing board's bulletin may set stricter rules. (source)
  • ID rules: you must present a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID with your name (in the English alphabet), signature, and photo, matching the name on your booking exactly; military IDs are not accepted, credit cards are not accepted for online tests, and school IDs are not recommended. (source)
  • Test center rules: arrive 30 minutes early; phones, smart watches, smart glasses, and other electronics are banned from the testing room, personal items go in lockable storage, and unscheduled breaks are not allowed on most tests. (source)
  • Online proctoring system requirements (2026): a personal Windows 10/11 (64-bit), macOS 14-26, or Ubuntu 22.04/24.04/26.04 computer (Chromebooks only via the PSI Chrome Extension); 8 GB RAM minimum (16 GB recommended); 3 Mbps upload and download (750 kbps minimum); no VPN; a single monitor; a webcam able to do a 360-degree room scan; and no headsets or earbuds. (source)
  • Second camera: some programs now require a smartphone (iOS 12+ or Android 8+, plugged in, on a stand) as a second camera during online-proctored exams; for example, Arizona insurance exams require it for all remote-proctored tests from September 28, 2026. (source)
  • Online check-in: your launch link activates up to 15 minutes before your appointment, check-in takes about 10-15 minutes (ID photo, selfie, 360-degree room scan, desk and accessories scans), the whole session is recorded, and the exam clock does not start until security checks are complete. (source)
  • Results: depending on your program, PSI shows your score on screen immediately after the test or provides instructions to access it from the licensing board; question counts, time limits, fees, and passing scores are set by each board, not by PSI. (source)
  • Network: PSI is a wholly owned subsidiary of ETS; together they deliver nearly 50 million tests a year in 200+ countries, with PSI Test Centers in all 50 U.S. states and ARELLO-accredited real estate exams under 29 state contracts. (source)

๐Ÿ’ตHow much does PSI exam cost?

PSI exam fees are set by the licensing board or exam program, not by PSI, and are paid when you book. PSI requires 2 business days' notice to reschedule without penalty; a no-show or late cancellation can forfeit the fee. Confirm the current fee on your program page at test-takers.psiexams.com.

PSI Test Questions

๐Ÿ’ปCan I take PSI exams online?

Yes, many PSI programs offer live online proctoring. You need a personal Windows, macOS, or Ubuntu computer (or a Chromebook via the PSI Chrome Extension), a webcam able to do a 360-degree room scan, a microphone, at least 3 Mbps internet, no VPN, and a private, well-lit room. Some programs also require a smartphone as a second camera.

Your total cost depends on your profession and state: the exam fee is set by the licensing board or exam program and paid when you book with PSI, and you should budget separately for pre-licensing education, application and license fees, and any background check. Many employers reimburse licensing costs, and the investment typically pays for itself within months of employment.
