- Effective January 1, 2025, the Basic Law Enforcement Training course is a minimum of 868 hours across 39 blocks of instruction (about 20 weeks), up from the previous 640-hour curriculum; courses already in progress on that date finished under the old rule. (source)
- NCDOJ confirms the Commission-mandated 868-hour BLET course ends with a comprehensive written exam and skills testing, and a trainee who passes has one year from the exam date to be appointed and sworn as a North Carolina law enforcement officer. (source)
- The state comprehensive examination is administered online via the Acadis platform within 60 days of the end of the course; the passing score is 70% of questions answered correctly (12 NCAC 09B .0406, amended January 1, 2025). (source)
- Retake rule: a trainee who scores 60% to 69% gets one re-examination within 60 days of the original exam (request on form F-23 within 30 days); a score below 60%, or a failed re-exam, means repeating the entire BLET course before testing again. (source)
