NBT Practice Test

Did you know? The NBT AQL component is compulsory for all applicants, while the NBT Mathematics test is typically required only for programs involving math, science, and health sciences. Students may also prepare with our SAT practice test.

If you are searching for a NBT past papers, start with the free questions on this page: every answer comes with an explanation, and the study notes below cover the NBT exam topics in order. Students who search for NBT test past papers and memo answers get the same thing here: you practice NBT test questions under a timer, then read the memo-style explanation for each one.

NBT Past Papers and Memo: What Is Actually Available

The NBT Project (NBTP) does not publish full NBT test past papers. Each paper is reused across sittings, so complete question booklets and marking memos are never released. What the NBTP does publish is a set of exemplar questions for both the AQL and MAT tests, together with a "what to expect" guide describing question types. Anyone offering a full NBT past papers and memo pack is selling reconstructed or made-up content, not an official paper.

The practical alternative is an NBT simulation test: a timed, multiple-choice set that mirrors the real format. The AQL paper has about 75 questions over 3 hours, and the MAT paper about 60 questions over 3 hours, with no calculator allowed. Our free quizzes above are built to that format, and every question carries a written explanation that does the job of a memo.

For NBT maths past papers specifically, the MAT test draws on Grade 12 CAPS content: algebra and equations, functions and graphs, trigonometry, Euclidean and analytical geometry, sequences, probability and financial mathematics. Revising those topics from your own Grade 11 and 12 papers, then working timed sets here, is the most reliable form of NBT preparation. If you are collecting NBT test preparation resources and guides, combine the NBTP exemplar questions, this page's practice sets and the score interpretation table below so you know which benchmark level you are aiming for.

Many readers pair this guide with the nbt mobile to check their readiness before exam day.

Sample National Benchmark Test Practice Questions

Try these questions from our free National Benchmark Test practice tests. The correct answer and an explanation follow each question.

1. A scatter plot shows a strong positive correlation between study hours and test scores. Which conclusion is best supported?

   • A. Students who study more tend to score higher
   • B. More study hours cause higher scores
   • C. All students who study 5 hours score above 80
   • D. Study hours are the only factor affecting scores

Answer: A. Students who study more tend to score higher

Correlation indicates a tendency, not causation or a guaranteed outcome for every individual.

Answer: A. Polite disagreement — a formal way of introducing a contrary point

'With all due respect' is a conventional phrase used to soften a disagreement; the register is formal but the function is adversarial.

Answer: B. short-lived

'Ephemeral' means lasting for a very short time; the context supports this with 'likely to collapse'.

Answer: A. Around 85

A strong positive correlation means higher study hours predict higher scores, so 9 hours would yield a score notably above 70.
