  1. A cyclist completes a 90 km route in 3.5 hours. For the first 60 km they averaged 30 km/h. At what average speed did they cover the remaining 30 km?

    Answer: 20 km/h

    Time for 60 km at 30 km/h = 2 h; remaining time = 3.5 − 2 = 1.5 h; speed = 30/1.5 = 20 km/h.

  2. The ages of 7 employees are: 24, 31, 27, 45, 29, 31, 38. What is the mode?

    Answer: 31

    31 appears twice while all other values appear once, making 31 the mode.

  3. A grocery store charges $3.60 for 1.5 kg of apples. A market sells the same apples at $2.20 per kg. How much is saved by buying 3 kg at the market instead of the store?

    Answer: $0.60

    Store rate: $3.60/1.5 = $2.40/kg; store cost for 3 kg = $7.20; market cost = $6.60; saving = $0.60.

  4. Quiz scores for 5 students are: 72, 85, 90, 68, 90. What is the mean score?

    Answer: 81

    Mean = (72 + 85 + 90 + 68 + 90) / 5 = 405 / 5 = 81.

  5. A floor plan is drawn at a scale of 1:50. A room measures 6 cm × 4 cm on the plan. What is the actual area of the room in square meters?

    Answer: 6 m²

    Actual dimensions: 6 × 50 = 300 cm = 3 m and 4 × 50 = 200 cm = 2 m; area = 3 × 2 = 6 m².

  6. A monthly budget is $2,400: 35% on rent, 25% on food, 15% on transport, and the rest on savings. How much is saved?

    Answer: $600

    Savings = 100% − 35% − 25% − 15% = 25%; amount = 0.25 × $2,400 = $600.

  7. A data set has values 10, 14, 14, 16, 21, 25. What is the range?

    Answer: 15

    Range = maximum − minimum = 25 − 10 = 15.
