Average = (80 + 60 + 100 + 40) / 4 = 280 / 4 = 70mm.
A store sells a jacket for $120 after applying a 25% discount. What was the original price?
Answer: $160
The sale price is 75% of the original, so original = $120 / 0.75 = $160.
A car travels 360 km using 30 liters of fuel. How many liters are needed to travel 480 km at the same rate?
Answer: 40 liters
Rate = 360/30 = 12 km/L; liters needed = 480/12 = 40 liters.
A pie chart shows 40% of students prefer science and 35% prefer math. What percentage prefer neither?
Answer: 25%
100% − 40% − 35% = 25% prefer neither subject.
A recipe uses 1.5 cups of flour for 12 cookies. How many cups are needed for 40 cookies?
Answer: 5 cups
Proportion: 1.5/12 = x/40 → x = 1.5 × 40/12 = 5 cups.
A line graph shows a population growing from 20,000 in 2010 to 26,000 in 2020. What is the percentage increase?
Answer: 30%
Increase = 6,000; percentage = 6,000/20,000 × 100 = 30%.
A worker earns $18 per hour and works 45 hours in a week. The first 40 hours are regular pay; beyond 40 hours is paid at 1.5× the regular rate. What is the total weekly pay?
Answer: $855
Regular: 40 × $18 = $720; overtime: 5 × $27 = $135; total = $720 + $135 = $855.
