4.6 cm × 500 000 = 2 300 000 cm = 23 000 m = 23 km.
A R15 000 bursary is shared between two students in the ratio 2:3. How much more does the second student receive than the first?
Answer: R3 000
1 part = 15 000 ÷ 5 = R3 000; first = R6 000, second = R9 000; difference = R3 000.
A factory uses 5 machines to produce 600 units per day. If 2 machines break down, how many units can be produced per day?
Answer: 360 units
Rate per machine = 600 ÷ 5 = 120 units; 3 machines produce 3 × 120 = 360 units.
A store marks up goods by 40% above cost price and then offers a 20% discount in a sale. If the cost price is R500, what is the final sale price?
Answer: R560
Marked price = 500 × 1.40 = R700; sale price = 700 × 0.80 = R560.
Two taps fill a tank. Tap A fills it in 6 hours and Tap B fills it in 12 hours. Working together, how many hours will they take to fill the tank?
