IC3 Practice Test
Updated for October 2026What changed for the IC3 certification in 2026
- GS5 simulated exams retired December 31, 2025: Certiport confirms "all IC3 GS5 Simulated exams (including Spark) retired on 12/31/2025." The GS5 Selected-Response (SR) and Spark SR exams remain available only in limited languages, and Certiport recommends moving to the most recent exam. (source)
- GS6 is the current standard (2026): IC3 Global Standard 6 is "composed of three exams, each awarding its own certificate" (Level 1, Level 2, Level 3) across seven digital literacy domains; passing all three earns the IC3 Digital Literacy Master Certification and Master Badge. Certiport now lists GS5 as "a previous version of the IC3 Digital Literacy program." (source)
- Exam length, 2026: each GS6 exam (Level 1, 2 and 3) has 45–50 questions and a 50-minute time limit; the legacy GS5 SR exams (Computing Fundamentals, Key Applications, Living Online) use the same 45–50 questions / 50 minutes. (source)
- Passing score: Certiport reports every exam on a 1–1000 scale and "the passing value is always equated to 700 on this scale." (source)
- Exam voucher price (Certiport Store, September 2026): IC3 Digital Literacy Exam Voucher $37.00; Exam Voucher with Retake $44.00; 3 Exam Vouchers with Retakes Bundle (all three GS6 levels) $130.00. (source)
- Retake policy: after a first failed attempt you must wait 24 hours; after a second failure you must wait 2 days (48 hours) before each subsequent attempt, with "no annual limit on the number of attempts on the same exam." (source) A retake voucher for IC3 expires 60 days after it is generated and is valid only for the exact same exam. (source)
- Where you test: exams are delivered through Certiport Authorized Testing Centers; through select U.S.-based testing centers you can also take the exam online from home if you are 18 or older and purchase a proctoring service with your voucher. (source)
- Languages and expiry: GS6 Level 1–3 exams are released in 17+ localizations (English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese and more; a few more languages are still scheduled). (source) IC3 Digital Literacy certifications "will not expire." (source)

How to Become IC3 Certified
The journey to earning your IC3 Digital Literacy Certification involves a few straightforward steps. GS6 (Global Standard 6) is the current version; GS5 is a previous version whose simulated exams were retired at the end of 2025, so most new candidates should follow the GS6 path.
If you want more targeted practice, the ic3 certification page covers the same material with additional questions and explanations.
- Choose Your Version - Take IC3 GS6 (Level 1, 2 and 3) unless your school still runs the legacy IC3 GS5 selected-response modules.
- Assess Your Skills - Take a free IC3 certification practice test to identify areas needing improvement.
- Study Key Topics - Work through the seven GS6 domains (Technology Basics, Digital Citizenship, Information Management, Content Creation, Communication, Collaboration, Safety and Security) at the level you are sitting; legacy GS5 candidates study Computing Fundamentals, Key Applications and Living Online.
- Purchase Voucher - Buy an exam voucher from Certiport or an authorized partner for the specific IC3 test you plan to take.
- Schedule Exam - Book your test at a Certiport Authorized Testing Center or for an online session.
- Pass the Exams - Successfully complete the required exams (GS6 Level 1, 2 and 3 for the Master certification, or the 3 legacy GS5 modules) with a score of 700 or higher on the 1-1000 scale.
- Claim Certification - Receive your official IC3 Digital Literacy Certification and digital badge.
Many schools and universities offer IC3 Certification as part of their curriculum at no additional cost to students. Check with your institution's IT or career department before purchasing vouchers independently.
IC3 GS6 at a Glance
IC3 Global Standard 6 is three separate exams, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3, each awarding its own certificate. Every level is built on the same seven objective domains, and each exam has 45–50 questions with a 50-minute time limit, scored on Certiport's 1–1000 scale with a passing value of 700. Exams are delivered in Certiport's Compass software at a Certiport Authorized Testing Center or, for candidates 18 and older through select U.S. centers, online with a proctor. Pass all three levels and Certiport awards the IC3 Digital Literacy Master Certification and Master Badge. The previous version, GS5, split the same material into Computing Fundamentals, Key Applications and Living Online; its simulated exams were retired at the end of 2025. Practice questions on this page that mirror the GS6 item types will get you comfortable with the performance-based tasks and the time limit before exam day.
IC3 GS6 Levels and Domains: What the Practice Questions Cover
IC3 Global Standard 6 replaces the three GS5 modules with three stackable exams. Certiport describes Level 1 as measuring fundamental concepts and essential components, Level 2 as requiring a working knowledge of each skill group, and Level 3 as validating an advanced understanding of digital literacy. Pass all three and you earn the IC3 Digital Literacy Master Certification and Master Badge.
Every level is built on the same seven objective domains, published by Certiport in a separate objective-domains document per level: Technology Basics, Digital Citizenship, Information Management, Content Creation, Communication, Collaboration, and Safety and Security. The difficulty rises with the level rather than the topic list. Level 1 asks you to identify input and output devices, explain browser and operating system basics, describe simple network troubleshooting, and tell public domain content from Creative Commons content. Level 2 adds customizing digital environments, managing a digital calendar, printer concepts, Internet commerce basics, and device and file security. Level 3 moves to troubleshooting technical problems with assistance, evaluating the veracity of digital information sources, representing data visually, accessibility, intellectual property standards, and managing device security.
Our IC3 practice questions are tagged to these domains, so a quick IC3 review by domain shows exactly where you are losing points. If you are working through IC3 practice exam questions online for a specific level, treat this IC3 certification practice test as a diagnostic first and a timed rehearsal second: the real exam gives you 50 minutes, and the performance-based items reward hands-on familiarity with the tasks listed in each objective domain.
