  1. A sum of $480 is divided in ratio 3:5. What is the smaller share?

    Answer: $180

    Total parts = 8, each = 60, smaller share = 3 x 60 = $180.

    Answer: 48

    Difference = 1 part = 12, so boys = 4 x 12 = 48.

  4. If z is inversely proportional to x and z = 6 when x = 4, what is z when x = 8?

    Answer: 3

    Product zx = 24 stays constant, so z = 24/8 = 3.

  5. A 60-liter mixture has acid and water in ratio 2:3. How much acid is present?

    Answer: 24 liters

    Answer: 21

    b goes from 3k to 5k as +6, so 2k=6, k=3, and a = 7 x 3 = 21.

  7. Three friends invest in ratio 4:5:6. If the total profit is $1,500, what does the second friend get?
