  1. If the area of a circle is 36π, what is its radius?

    Answer: 6

    πr² = 36π means r² = 36, so r = 6.

  2. A store sells pens at 3 for $2. How much do 12 pens cost?

    Answer: $8

    12 ÷ 3 = 4 sets at $2 each = $8.

  3. What is the median of 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42?

    Answer: 15.5

    With six values, the median is the average of 15 and 16, which is 15.5.

  4. If 5 workers build a wall in 12 days, how long for 10 workers at the same rate?

    Answer: 6 days

    Doubling workers halves the time to 6 days.

  5. Simplify: (x³ · x⁴) ÷ x²

    Answer: x⁵

    Add exponents 3+4=7, then subtract 2 to get x⁵.

  6. A coat costs $120 after a 20% discount. What was the original price?

    Answer: $150

    120 ÷ 0.80 = 150.

  7. What is the value of |−9| + |5 − 12|?

    Answer: 16

    |−9| = 9 and |−7| = 7, summing to 16.
