Updated for October 2026What changed for the CASAC / IC&RC ADC exam in 2026
- Exam format (current ADC blueprint, effective November 2022): the IC&RC Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ADC) exam has 150 multiple-choice questions (125 scored + 25 unscored pretest items) with a 3-hour time limit. Domain weights: Scientific Principles 25%, Screening & Assessment 20%, Treatment/Counseling/Referral 30%, Professional/Ethical/Legal 25%. (source)
- Scoring: IC&RC reports results on a 200–800 scale; the minimum passing scaled score is 500 on every IC&RC exam. Score verification can be requested within 30 days (fee applies). (source)
- Delivery: IC&RC exams are computer-based and administered by Prometric through its ISO-Quality Testing (IQT) division at testing centers; remote proctoring is available only where the administering board allows it. Rescheduling/cancelling less than 5 days before the appointment costs $35. OASAS offers the exam in English and Spanish. (source) (source)

- Requirements confirmed: full CASAC = 350 clock hours of OASAS-approved education plus 6,000 hours of supervised work experience (at least 300 hours of supervised practical training in the core competencies; at least 2,000 hours within the 5 years before applying). - Credential levels: CASAC-T (Trainee) is issued once, valid 5 years, after the 350 education hours or 4,000 work hours + 85 education hours; CASAC-Advanced requires a CASAC plus a bachelor's degree and the 30-hour Clinical Supervision Foundations I & II training; CASAC-Master requires a human-services master's degree and at least 3 consecutive years as a CASAC.
