The Cambridge FCE (First Certificate in English) is now officially called B2 First. It is a Cambridge English qualification set at Level B2 on the CEFR scale, proving you can use everyday written and spoken English for work or study.

The B2 First (FCE) exam has four papers: Reading and Use of English, Writing, Listening and Speaking. Each paper tests a different skill, and your overall grade combines scores from all four sections.

Key word transformations appear in the Reading and Use of English paper. You rewrite a sentence using a given key word so the meaning stays the same, testing grammar and vocabulary. Each gap must use between two and five words.

B2 First is reported on the Cambridge English Scale. You need a scale score of 160 or above to pass and earn the certificate. Scores of 180 to 190 are graded A and correspond to CEFR Level C1.
