AMC 8 Questions and Answers

The average AMC-8 score in the previous year was ten questions correct out of twenty-five. Students preparing for competitive math may also benefit from our algebra practice test.

The AMC 8 is for students in grades 6, 7, and 8 in middle school. Students in 4th and 5th grades who are highly motivated are also invited to participate.

Use Mock Tests to assess your problem-solving abilities. If it’s an online test, you’ll be able to see how prepared you are for the competition. You’ll be able to see where you stand and what needs to change.

The American Mathematics Competition 8 (replaced AJHSME) or AMC 8 is the United States’ first step toward the International Math Olympiad (USAMO). Every year, outstanding students compete in this mathematics festival to put their skills to the test.
This competition seeks to offer students an opportunity to develop a positive attitude toward difficult mathematics issues.

The results of AMC 8 from last year are now available on the official AMC website.

It varies by year. The AMC 8 is difficult some years and easy others.

A star indicates the right response option. Perfect Scores honors students who have received a perfect score of 25. School Honor Roll is given to schools with a team score of 66 or higher (AMC 8, highest three student scores).

The AMC 8 is a 40-minute, 25-question, multiple-choice assessment in middle school mathematics meant to help students develop problem-solving skills.

Following the AMC 8 in January, the MAA AMC office will begin emailing official scores and reports in early to late February. The email reports are sent out roughly in the sequence we receive the school response forms. Processing and reporting take roughly 3 to 4 weeks from start to finish.

The American Mathematics Competition for kids in grades 8 and below is known as AMC 8.

  • Go to maa.org/amc-reg.
  • To begin, click “Register” next to the competition name. Choose between online and print administration. 
  • Beginning in late August, Competition Managers will receive an AoPS registration email with instructions on how to set up their AoPS accounts so that they may access participant registration links.

The following are the official dates for the 2026-2026 Mathematical Association of America AMC Competitions:

  • 10/12 A (AMC): November 10, 2026
  • November 16, 2026, AMC 10/12 B
  • January 18-24, 2026, AMC 8

No problems need the use of a calculator, which has been prohibited since 2008.

As the exam advances, the problems become more challenging. The last five problems are usually the most difficult.
