Which inequality is represented by: all real numbers less than −3 or greater than or equal to 5?
Answer: x < −3 or x ≥ 5
"Less than −3" means x < −3; "greater than or equal to 5" means x ≥ 5, joined by 'or'.
The average of five test scores is 82. Four of the scores are 78, 85, 90, and 76. What is the fifth score?
Answer: 81
Total needed = 82 × 5 = 410; known sum = 329; fifth score = 410 − 329 = 81.
Factor completely: x² − 9x + 20
Answer: (x − 4)(x − 5)
Find two numbers that multiply to 20 and add to −9: −4 and −5, giving (x−4)(x−5).
A bank account earns simple interest. If $1,500 is invested at 4% per year for 3 years, what is the total interest earned?
Answer: $180
I = Prt = 1500 × 0.04 × 3 = $180.
What is the solution to the system: 2x + y = 7 and x − y = 2?
Answer: (3, 1)
Adding the equations: 3x = 9, so x = 3; substituting back gives y = 1.
A circular pizza has a diameter of 14 inches. What is the area of the pizza? (Use π ≈ 3.14)
Answer: 153.86 sq in
