  1. A rectangular garden is 12 meters long and 7 meters wide. What is its area?

    Answer: 84 m²

    Area = length × width = 12 × 7 = 84 m².

  2. Tom has twice as many cards as Lisa. Together they have 90 cards. How many does Tom have?

    Answer: 60

    Let Lisa = x, Tom = 2x; x + 2x = 90; 3x = 90; x = 30; Tom has 60.

  3. A train travels at 75 mph for 2.5 hours. How far does it travel?

    Answer: 187.5 miles

    Distance = speed × time = 75 × 2.5 = 187.5 miles.

  4. A class has 30 students. 18 are girls. What percentage are boys?

    Answer: 40%

    Boys = 30 − 18 = 12; percentage = 12/30 × 100 = 40%.

  5. A tank holds 200 gallons. It is currently 35% full. How many gallons does it contain?

    Answer: 70

    35% of 200 = 0.35 × 200 = 70 gallons.

  6. Maria earns $12 per hour. She works 6 hours on Monday and 8 hours on Tuesday. How much does she earn in total?

    Answer: $168

    Total hours = 6 + 8 = 14; earnings = 14 × $12 = $168.
