  1. What are the five steps to risk assessment?

    Answer: Identify hazards, decide who might be harmed, evaluate risks, record findings, review regularly

    The HSE's five steps provide a systematic approach to managing workplace risks.

  2. What colour is a CO2 fire extinguisher?

    Answer: Red with a black label

    CO2 extinguishers have a red body with a black label. They're safe for electrical fires and leave no residue.

  3. What is COSHH?

    Answer: Control of Substances Hazardous to Health — regulations governing exposure to harmful substances

    COSHH requires employers to control exposure to hazardous substances in the workplace, including cleaning chemicals commonly used in venues.

  4. What is the legal maximum working temperature in a workplace?

    Answer: There is no legal maximum, but employers must keep it 'reasonable'

    Unlike minimum temperature (16°C for most workplaces), there is no legal maximum. However, employers must take reasonable steps to achieve a comfortable temperature.

  5. What should a first aid kit contain as a minimum?

    Answer: Guidance leaflet, bandages, plasters, eye pads, triangular bandages, safety pins, gloves, wound dressings

    HSE regulations specify minimum contents. Note: first aid kits should NOT contain medication (paracetamol, aspirin) as this requires medical authorisation.

  6. What is the minimum temperature for most workplaces?

    Answer: 13°C for physical work, 16°C for sedentary work

    The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 require a minimum of 16°C for sedentary work and 13°C for physical work.
