    Answer: 25%

    Increase = 12. Percentage increase = (12/48) × 100 = 25%.

  5. What is 7 squared minus 4 cubed?

    Answer: −15

    7² = 49. 4³ = 64. 49 − 64 = −15.

  6. A school has 420 pupils. 35% receive free school meals. How many pupils is this?

    Answer: 147

    35% of 420 = 0.35 × 420 = 147.
