Answer: Sarah attends the conference
Since all managers attend the conference and Sarah is a manager, Sarah must attend the conference. This is a direct syllogism.
If it rains, the game is cancelled. The game was not cancelled. What can you conclude?
Answer: It did not rain
This is modus tollens: If P then Q. Not Q. Therefore, not P. Since the game wasn't cancelled, it didn't rain.
Tom is taller than Jerry. Jerry is taller than Sam. Mike is shorter than Sam. Who is the tallest?
Answer: Tom
Ordering from tallest to shortest: Tom > Jerry > Sam > Mike. Tom is the tallest.
In a group of 30 people, 18 speak English, 15 speak French, and 5 speak neither. How many speak both languages?
Answer: 8
People who speak at least one language: 30 - 5 = 25. Using inclusion-exclusion: 18 + 15 - both = 25, so both = 8.
No reptiles are mammals. All snakes are reptiles. Which conclusion is valid?
Answer: No snakes are mammals
Since no reptiles are mammals and all snakes are reptiles, no snakes can be mammals.
