  1. A is taller than B. B is taller than C. C is taller than D. Who is the shortest?

    Answer: D

    The chain A > B > C > D places D at the bottom.

  2. If the alarm is on, the door is locked. If the door is locked, no one can enter. The alarm is on. What follows?

    Answer: No one can enter

Alarm on → door locked → no one can enter, so no one can enter.

  3. Exactly three people — X, Y, Z — are standing in a line. X is not first. Z is not last. Y is not second. What is the order?

    Answer: Z, X, Y

Z must be first or second; since Y is not second and X is not first, the order is Z, X, Y.

  4. All A are B. No B are C. Therefore:

    Answer: No A are C

All A fall within B, and no B are C, so no A can be C.

  5. Five tasks must finish before task 6. Tasks 1 and 3 depend on task 2. Task 2 depends on task 4. What must be done first?

    Answer: Task 4

Task 4 has no listed dependencies and must precede task 2, which precedes tasks 1 and 3.

  6. Either the report is late or the data is incorrect — but not both. The report is not late. What is true?

    Answer: The data is incorrect

The exclusive or means exactly one is true; since the report is not late, the data must be incorrect.

  7. P implies Q. Q implies R. R is false. What can be deduced?

    Answer: P is false

    R false → Q false (contrapositive Q→R) → P false (contrapositive P→Q).
