What changed for the Ontario Security Guard Test in 2026

  • The Ontario security guard test has 60 multiple-choice questions and a 75-minute time limit (the appointment slot is two hours). You can take it online or in person at select DriveTest centres through the ministry's test provider, Serco DES Inc. (source)
  • The test fee is $66.50 plus 13% HST, a total of $75.15 CAD. The pass mark (cut score) is 62%, and results are released within five business days. (source)
  • Before you can book the test you must finish ministry-prescribed basic training of at least 40 hours, which includes Emergency First Aid and CPR certification (you may opt out of the first aid portion with a valid St. John Ambulance or WSIB-certified certificate). As of July 2026 the ministry says it is modernizing the Private Security and Investigative Services Act and developing new standardized basic training curricula for future implementation; current requirements remain in force.
