The legs of a right triangle measure 9 and 12. What is the length of the hypotenuse?
Answer: 15
By the Pythagorean theorem, c = sqrt(81 + 144) = sqrt(225) = 15.
What is the area of a trapezoid with bases of 10 cm and 14 cm and a height of 6 cm?
Answer: 72 sq cm
Area = (1/2)(b1 + b2)(h) = (1/2)(10 + 14)(6) = (1/2)(24)(6) = 72 sq cm.
An arc subtends a central angle of 60 degrees in a circle of radius 12 cm. What is the arc length?
Answer: 4pi cm
Arc length = (theta/360) x 2*pi*r = (60/360) x 24pi = 4pi cm.
A cone has a radius of 5 cm and a slant height of 13 cm. What is its lateral surface area in terms of pi?
Answer: 65pi sq cm
Lateral surface area = pi*r*l = pi*5*13 = 65pi sq cm.
Two parallel lines are cut by a transversal. If one alternate interior angle measures 72 degrees, what does the other alternate interior angle measure?
Answer: 72 degrees
Alternate interior angles formed by parallel lines and a transversal are congruent, so both measure 72 degrees.
What is the volume of a sphere with a diameter of 6 cm, in terms of pi?
Answer: 36pi cu cm
Radius = 3, so volume = (4/3)*pi*r^3 = (4/3)*pi*27 = 36pi cu cm.
