  1. Where in New Zealand are you NOT allowed to park your vehicle?

Answer: On a median strip or traffic island

You must never park on a median strip or traffic island as it creates a serious hazard.

  2. A 'P30' parking zone sign also shows the times '8am–6pm Mon–Fri'. When can you park there with no time limit?

Answer: On weekday evenings after 6pm and on weekends

Time restrictions only apply during the hours and days shown, so outside those times you may park without a time limit.

  3. How far from an intersection must you park in New Zealand when there are no special markings?

    Answer: 10 metres

You must not park within 10 metres of an intersection unless marked bays or signs indicate otherwise.

  4. You are parked legally in a P60 zone and your 60 minutes expire. What should you do?

Answer: Move your vehicle to a different street or car park

When a time limit expires, you must move your vehicle to a different location, not just repark nearby.

  5. Can you park your vehicle facing against the flow of traffic on a two-way road?

Answer: No, it is not permitted

In New Zealand, you must park on the left side of the road, facing the same direction as traffic flow.

  6. What does a 'No Parking' sign (with the letter P crossed out) mean for a driver?

Answer: You must not park there at all

A No Parking sign means you must not park your vehicle there — stopping briefly to pick up or drop off may still be allowed if safe.

  7. What is the minimum distance you must park from a pedestrian crossing in New Zealand?

    Answer: 6 metres

You must not park within 6 metres before or after a pedestrian crossing to keep it visible and accessible.
