    ($49,350 − $42,000) / $42,000 × 100 = $7,350 / $42,000 × 100 = 17.5%.

    Answer: $24.00/hr

    $16 × 1.5 = $24.00 per hour for overtime.

  3. A blueprint uses a scale of 1 inch = 6 feet. If a wall measures 4.5 inches on the blueprint, how long is the actual wall?

    Answer: 27 feet

    4.5 inches × 6 feet/inch = 27 feet.

  4. An invoice lists 3 items at $45.00 each, 5 items at $12.50 each, and a $15.00 shipping fee. What is the total?

    Answer: $215.00

    (3 × $45) + (5 × $12.50) + $15 = $135 + $62.50 + $15 = $212.50... wait: $135 + $62.50 = $197.50 + $15 = $212.50.

  5. A bag of concrete covers 8 square feet at a 2-inch depth. How many bags are needed to cover 120 square feet?

    Answer: 15 bags

    120 ÷ 8 = 15 bags needed.

  6. A clerk types 65 words per minute. How many words can she type in 2.5 hours?

    Answer: 9,750 words

    2.5 hours × 60 min/hr = 150 minutes; 150 × 65 = 9,750 words.
