In a code, consonants are shifted +1 and vowels are shifted −1 (circular). What is the code for 'FAME'?
Answer: GZND
F(cons)+1=G, A(vowel)−1=Z, M(cons)+1=N, E(vowel)−1=D, giving GZND.
In a code, the word is reversed and then each letter is shifted back by 1. What is the code for 'BANK'?
Answer: JMZA
BANK reversed = KNAB; K−1=J, N−1=M, A−1=Z, B−1=A, giving JMZA.
In a code, odd-position letters (1st, 3rd…) are shifted +1 and even-position letters (2nd, 4th…) are shifted −1. What is the code for 'EXAM'?
Answer: FWBL
E(pos1)+1=F, X(pos2)−1=W, A(pos3)+1=B, M(pos4)−1=L, giving FWBL.
In a code, the first and last letters of a word are swapped and all middle letters remain unchanged. What is the code for 'JUDGE'?
Answer: EUDGJ
Swap J and E: E-U-D-G-J, giving EUDGJ.
In a code language, '123' = 'hot sunny day', '345' = 'day and night', '125' = 'hot rainy night'. What does the digit '2' represent?
Answer: hot
'hot' appears in sentences 1 and 3; '2' is the only digit common to both codes 123 and 125, so 2 = hot.
In a shifted code, A=2, B=3, C=4, and so on (each letter = its position + 1). What is the value of 'ACE'?
Answer: 12
A=2, C=4, E=6; 2+4+6=12.
In a code, adjacent letter pairs are swapped (1st↔2nd, 3rd↔4th, 5th↔6th, last letter stays if odd). What is the code for 'PROBLEM'?
Answer: RPBOELM
Pairs: (P,R)→RP, (O,B)→BO, (L,E)→EL, M stays; result is RPBOELM.
