What is the distance between the points (1, 2) and (4, 6)?
Answer: 5
Distance = √((4−1)² + (6−2)²) = √(9 + 16) = √25 = 5.
What is the midpoint of the segment joining (−2, 3) and (6, −1)?
Answer: (2, 1)
Midpoint = ((−2+6)/2, (3+(−1))/2) = (2, 1).
What is the slope of the line through (0, −3) and (2, 5)?
Answer: 4
Slope = (5−(−3))/(2−0) = 8/2 = 4.
A line has equation y = −2x + 7. What is its y-intercept?
Answer: 7
In y = mx + b, b = 7 is the y-intercept.
Two lines are perpendicular. One has slope 3. What is the slope of the other?
Answer: −1/3
Perpendicular slopes are negative reciprocals, so −1/3.
What is the area of a circle with radius 5?
Answer: 25π
Area = πr² = π(5)² = 25π.
A triangle has a base of 8 and a height of 5. What is its area?
Answer: 20
Area = ½ × base × height = ½ × 8 × 5 = 20.
