  1. Solve for x: 2x² + 5x − 3 = 0

    Answer: x = 1/2 or x = −3

    Factor as (2x − 1)(x + 3) = 0. Setting each factor to zero gives 2x − 1 = 0 → x = 1/2, and x + 3 = 0 → x = −3.

  2. What is the slope of the line passing through the points (2, 5) and (6, 13)?

    Answer: 2

    Slope = (y₂ − y₁) / (x₂ − x₁) = (13 − 5) / (6 − 2) = 8 / 4 = 2.

  3. A circle has a radius of 5 cm. What is its area? (Use π ≈ 3.14)

    Answer: 78.5 cm²

    Area = π × r² = 3.14 × 5² = 3.14 × 25 = 78.5 cm². The area formula uses the radius squared, not the diameter.

  4. If 3(x − 4) = 2x + 1, what is the value of x?

    Answer: 13

    Distribute: 3x − 12 = 2x + 1. Subtract 2x from both sides: x − 12 = 1. Add 12: x = 13.

  5. The scores of 5 students on a quiz are: 72, 85, 91, 68, 79. What is the median score?

    Answer: 79

    Arrange in order: 68, 72, 79, 85, 91. The middle value (3rd of 5) is 79, which is the median.

  6. A car travels 240 miles in 4 hours. At the same speed, how many miles will it travel in 7 hours?

    Answer: 420

    Speed = 240 ÷ 4 = 60 mph. Distance in 7 hours = 60 × 7 = 420 miles.
