Some sources say it adds $5-8k/year on average, others suggest it's more of a requirement to even get considered for certain roles now rather than a pay bump.
Has anyone here seen a direct salary impact from getting FMCSA certified? Or is it more of a "required to apply" thing in your industry now?
Also — how long did the whole process take from starting to study to passing? And what was the exam fee in your state/country?
Trying to do a real cost-benefit before I commit 4-7 months to this.

The fmcsa vehicle maintenance and inspection requirements has been my main resource and the difficulty feels right — not easy enough to give false confidence, not so hard it's discouraging. Sitting for the real thing in 4 weeks.

Quick update for anyone following along. I just took a full practice test last night and pulled a 78, which is a solid jump from the low 60s I was stuck at a couple weeks ago. The ELD section is what kept tripping me up, so I've been grinding these free fmcsa electronic logging devices questions over and over until the rules finally clicked. Funny thing is it wasn't the hard stuff that got me, it was the dumb little details I kept glossing over.
On the salary thing, I can't speak to it yet since I'm not certified, but the guys at my yard who have it definitely aren't hurting. I'm planning to sit the real exam in about two weeks once I can hit 85 consistently. If you're on the fence, honestly just start studying and see how you feel. You learn pretty fast whether it's worth it to you.
