Finally passed my PVC exam after two failed attempts — here's what worked

Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I passed the PVC certification last Thursday and honestly I'm still in shock. Failed it twice before — first time I went in completely underprepared (thought my field experience would carry me), second time I studied the wrong stuff and ran out of time on the practical scenarios section.

What finally clicked for me was using a dedicated PVC practice test to actually simulate the exam conditions. Timed myself, no pausing, reviewed every wrong answer before moving on. I also went through a structured study guide instead of just reading random PDFs I found online. Took me about six weeks of consistent effort, maybe 45 minutes a day on weekdays and two hours on Saturdays.

The sections that tripped me up most were the code compliance questions and the pressure testing calculations. If anyone's currently prepping, I'd say don't underestimate those. Happy to share more specific exam tips if people have questions — I remember how stressful this process was and want to help if I can.

Congrats! Two failed attempts and you still pushed through — that takes real grit. I'm sitting mine in about eight weeks and the code compliance stuff is exactly what's killing me on practice runs. Did you find any particular resource that broke down the pressure calculation formulas in plain English? Most of what I've found assumes you already know the underlying theory.

This is super encouraging to read. I passed on my second attempt last year and honestly the timed practice tests were the single biggest factor. I kept running out of time on the real exam until I forced myself to practice under actual time pressure. One exam tip I'd add: flag and skip anything that takes more than 90 seconds, then come back. Saved me probably 15 minutes.

Six weeks at 45 min/day is a really realistic schedule — I think a lot of people either cram too hard at the end or spread it out too thin over months and forget stuff. Bookmarking this thread for when I start my own prep next month. Thanks for posting.
