How long does it realistically take to study for the NJ LEE?

I work full time (50 hours a week) and just registered for the NJ LEE. I'm trying to set a realistic study timeline before committing to a test date.

From what I've read, estimates range from 5 weeks to 12 weeks depending on background. My background is related but I've never taken a formal study guide course, so I'm probably starting at an intermediate level.

I've been using the nj lee use of force & defensive tactics to gauge where I stand, and my initial diagnostic scores are around 59%. Also reading through new jersey law enforcement test to fill in the theory gaps.

For those who've been through it: did you study daily or more intensively in bursts? Did your practice scores accurately predict your real exam performance?

Congrats on passing! Can I ask — how many questions did the actual exam have compared to what the practice tests simulate? I've seen different numbers online and want to calibrate my timing during practice.

Good thread. One thing I'd add: don't try to cram the night before. I did 3 hours the night before my NJ LEE and I think it hurt more than helped. Your brain needs consolidation time. Light review or full rest is better.

Late to this thread but wanted to add — the exam prep section trips up more people than any other part. If you're scoring below 73% there in practice, treat it as your only focus for at least a week before moving on. Breadth at the expense of depth in that area is a common mistake.

Bookmarking this. I'm still in the early stages of NJ LEE prep and threads like this are way more useful than generic study guides. The specifics about exam prep are particularly helpful — that's the section I've been avoiding.

The part about reviewing wrong answers thoroughly is so underrated. Most people just move on after getting something wrong. Going back to understand the concept is what actually builds retention for the NJ LEE. I also used new jersey law enforcement test for the areas that kept coming up wrong — really helped cement the concepts.
