Deep dive on study guide for the EMP — tips from someone who almost failed it
The study guide section of the EMP nearly cost me my pass. I want to be specific about what tripped me up so others can avoid the same pitfalls.
The main issue: I understood the theory but struggled when questions presented real-world scenarios requiring judgment rather than recall. The EMP exam tests whether you can apply knowledge under ambiguous conditions, not just whether you've memorized the material.
The practice questions in the emp environmental regulations & policy do a good job of simulating this. After working through them, I started recognizing patterns in how the exam phrases "select the best answer" versus "which is correct" — they're testing different things.
