Time management during CAE exam — how fast are you supposed to go?

Passed CAE 5 months ago. Happy to share what I remember.

On the "CAE exam" stuff specifically — I found the practice tests here were actually harder than the real exam on those questions. Which was great because going in I felt more prepared than I needed to be.

The time pressure is real though. I came in with maybe 8 minutes to spare and that was after skipping the ones I wasn't sure about and coming back.

Don't try to cram the night before. Seriously. Last-minute stress makes you second-guess things you actually know.

Same boat a few months ago. Here's what I'd tell myself:

The CAE exam is more concept-focused than the study guides suggest. They test whether you understand CAE, not just whether you can define it.

My tip: when you see a scenario question, mentally walk through it step by step before looking at the answers. The wrong answers are designed to catch people who jump to conclusions.

Quick update: just cleared 87% on my most recent CAE practice set using cae certified adult educator regulatory compliance legal framework. Sitting for the real thing in 3 weeks. Feeling cautiously optimistic.

Failed first attempt, came back to this thread. The consensus on cae practice test being the make-or-break area is right. Focusing almost exclusively on applied questions this time around.

I totally get this. I was working 50-hour weeks when I took the CAE and honestly the time pressure was the hardest part for me.
