Starting to prep for the CPP (Certified Pet Professional) and trying to figure out where to focus my time. I've been in pet care for 6 years — mostly grooming and boarding — so the hands-on knowledge side feels okay. But I'm not sure how technical the business operations and client communication sections get on the actual exam versus what I'm seeing in study guides.
Been doing about 90 minutes a day for 3 weeks. Animal behavior and basic health indicators feel solid but sanitation protocols and medication handling are where I keep second-guessing myself. Overall practice score is around 72% right now.
Specifically wondering how much nutrition knowledge the exam tests. I'm seeing conflicting info — some guides weight diet heavily while others barely mention it. Would also help to know whether the facility management questions are more compliance-based or scenario-based.
And on time — I finish practice sets with room to spare but I've heard the real exam has some long case-based scenarios that slow people down considerably. Is that accurate?
The business and client communication questions are situational, not factual. You won't be memorizing pricing formulas — it's more like how do you handle this client complaint or what do you do when a boarding guest shows these symptoms. Straightforward if you have real experience.
Time wasn't an issue for me but the medication handling section slows people down because the scenarios require careful reading. Don't rush through those — the wrong answer is usually the one that sounds right on a quick skim.
Passed in December with an 80%. Sanitation and health protocols were heavier than I expected — probably 25% of what I saw. Nutrition was present but not as dense as some guides suggest. Spend time on zoonotic disease prevention, it came up several times.
72% is workable but aim for 80%+ before you schedule. The real exam phrases things differently from most prep materials and you want a buffer. Another 2 focused weeks should get you there.
