Anyone else studying for AAMS in the next month? Want to study together

Taking my (AAMS) Accredited Asset Management Specialist exam in 6 weeks and trying to find people at a similar stage to keep each other accountable.

I study better when I have someone to compare notes with. Currently going through "AAMS" and working on my weak areas — specifically around AAMS exam.

My schedule: 90 min of focused study every weekday, full practice test on weekends. I review every wrong answer and try to understand the why, not just memorize the right option.

If you're in a similar prep window and want to:
- Compare practice test scores weekly
- Share resources that actually helped
- Talk through confusing questions

Reply here or message me. Doesn't have to be formal — even just checking in once a week helps me stay on track.

Where is everyone at in their prep?

If you're looking for a starting point, the free aams asset management process is worth trying — the questions closely match what you'll see on test day.

For what it's worth from someone who's been through it:

The AAMS is one of those exams where the practice tests really do prepare you well. The style of questioning is pretty consistent. If you're comfortable with "AAMS" material under timed conditions, you'll be fine.

The one thing I'd add: read the question stems very carefully. They sometimes add a qualifier that completely changes the right answer and it's easy to miss when you're going fast.

Also check whether you need to schedule the exam in advance — some testing centers book up 2-3 weeks out.

I actually failed the first time by a few points. Total gut punch. But passed on the second attempt with a comfortable margin.

What changed: I stopped trying to memorize answers and started actually understanding the material. Specifically on AAMS exam — I went back to basics and worked forward from first principles.

Also switched from reading to doing. Less time with the textbook, more time on practice questions with detailed answer explanations.

You've got this. The second attempt is always better because you know exactly what the exam is like.

Great discussion. One thing nobody mentions: sleep the night before matters more than one more study session. Went in fully rested for my AAMS and felt sharper than expected.

Coming back to this thread — just passed my AAMS yesterday. Everything about the aams practice test section is accurate. For anyone still studying, the free aams investment strategies was the closest thing to the real exam I found.

I'm in a similar boat — full-time job, two kids, so I've basically been stealing 45 minutes here and there before work and during lunch. It's not ideal but it adds up. The portfolio construction stuff clicked pretty fast for me, but the tax and estate planning sections took way longer than I expected.

If you want to check in weekly that'd be great. I didn't think I'd need a study partner for this one but honestly having someone to compare weak spots with makes you actually sit down and do it. What sections are giving you the most trouble right now?

Just passed mine last month so I can tell you what actually helped me. The thing that made the biggest difference wasn't reading more, it was doing practice questions under timed conditions every single day. I didn't do that early enough and it cost me a few weeks of false confidence. Once I started treating each practice session like the real thing, my weak areas became obvious fast.

For the asset management and portfolio stuff specifically, don't just memorize formulas, make sure you understand why each concept matters to a client situation. That's where the exam really tests you. You've got a solid timeline so use it, but don't cram everything at the end. Good luck, you'll do fine if you stay consistent.
