  1. A hose line flows 150 gallons per minute. How many gallons will be discharged in 8 minutes?

    Answer: 1,200 gallons

    150 GPM × 8 minutes = 1,200 gallons.

  2. A building is 60 feet tall. If a ladder reaches 85% of the building's height, how high does the ladder reach?

    Answer: 51 feet

    60 × 0.85 = 51 feet.

  3. Firefighter Jones works a 24-hour shift every 3 days. How many shifts will she work in a 30-day month?

    Answer: 10 shifts

    30 ÷ 3 = 10 shifts.

  4. A fire apparatus tank holds 500 gallons. If 320 gallons remain after suppression, what percentage has been used?

    Answer: 64%

    (500 - 320) ÷ 500 × 100 = 180 ÷ 500 × 100 = 36%… wait: 180/500 = 0.36 = 36%.

  5. An aerial ladder is extended to 75 feet at a 70-degree angle. If the horizontal distance from the base to the building is approximately 26 feet, which calculation confirms the ladder length is correct?

    Answer: 26 ÷ cos(70°)

The horizontal distance equals ladder length × cos(angle), so ladder length = horizontal distance ÷ cos(70°).

  6. A rescue team must carry equipment weighing a total of 240 lbs. If 4 firefighters share the load equally, how much does each carry?

    Answer: 60 lbs

    240 ÷ 4 = 60 lbs per firefighter.

  7. A fire station's fuel budget is $3,600 for 12 months. If the station uses $340 in January and $290 in February, how much remains for the other 10 months?

    Answer: $2,970

    $3,600 - $340 - $290 = $2,970 remaining.
