What changed for the Florida FAST in 2026-27

  • 2026-27 testing windows set (schedule dated Aug 27, 2026): grades 3-10 FAST ELA Reading and grades 3-8 Mathematics run PM1 August 10-September 25, 2026; PM2 November 30, 2026-January 22, 2027; and PM3 May 3-28, 2027. Districts pick exact test days inside each window. (source)
  • K-2 FAST (Star) windows: PM1 August 3-September 25, 2026; PM2 November 30, 2026-January 22, 2027; PM3 April 12-May 28, 2027. K-2 results appear in Family Portal after the first week of each window. (source)
  • Grade 10 ELA Reading Retake and Grade 3 summer test dates: retake windows are September 8-October 2, 2026; November 30-December 18, 2026; May 3-28, 2027; and July 12-16, 2027. The summer Grade 3 FAST ELA Reading opportunity is also July 12-16, 2027. (source)
  • 2026-27 session lengths (August 2026 fact sheet): ELA Reading 90 minutes in PM1/PM2 and 120 minutes in PM3; grades 3-5 Math 80/100 minutes; grades 6-8 Math 100/120 minutes. PM3 is longer because it carries embedded field-test items; students still working at the end of the session may continue until the end of the school day. (source)
  • Promotion and graduation cut scores confirmed for 2026-27: grade 3 students need Level 2 or higher on PM3 ELA Reading for promotion (Level 2 starts at scale score 186); grade 10 students must reach 247 (Level 3) on PM3 ELA Reading to graduate, with an alternate passing score of 246 for students who entered grade 9 before 2021-22; the B.E.S.T. Algebra 1 EOC passing score is 400 (document revised September 2026). (source)
  • Score reporting: FAST results post to the Florida Reporting System within 24 hours of a student finishing; Family Portal begins populating three days after a window opens and then updates within 24 hours. Spanish-language Individual Student Reports have been available since Winter 2025. (source)
  • Spring 2026 (PM3) statewide results released: 61% of grades 3-10 students scored Level 3 or above in ELA Reading, up from 57% in 2025 and 49% in 2023; grade 3 ELA rose to 60% at Level 3+, and only 19% of third graders scored Level 1 (22% in 2024-25). (source)
  • Format unchanged for 2026-27: all grades 3-10 FAST tests remain computer-adaptive on the B.E.S.T. scale (first used Winter 2023); paper forms exist only as a documented IEP/504 accommodation, and remote testing is limited to PM1/PM2 for full-time virtual or hospital/homebound students. (source)

Last verified: September 16, 2026 against the Florida Department of Education.

Note: FAST assessments are adaptive, meaning the difficulty can adjust based on student responses. PM3 is the summative assessment used for accountability and promotion decisions.

FAST Test Flashcards

Tap a card to flip it. Ten quick facts every student and parent should know before a FAST reading practice test or math practice test.

📅 What are PM1, PM2 and PM3?

FAST is given three times a year. For 2026-27, PM1 (Progress Monitoring 1) runs August 10-September 25, 2026 as the baseline, PM2 November 30, 2026-January 22, 2027 as the mid-year check, and PM3 May 3-28, 2027 as the summative test that counts for accountability.

START FAST PRACTICE TEST

📖 Which grades take FAST ELA Reading?

Every Florida public school student in grades 3–10 takes FAST ELA Reading. Grades K–2 take a separate early-literacy FAST that is administered one-on-one, which is why a K–2 FAST practice test looks different from the grades 3–10 computer test.

START FAST PRACTICE TEST

➗ Which grades take FAST Mathematics?

FAST Mathematics covers grades 3–8. High school students do not take a FAST math test; instead they take the B.E.S.T. Algebra 1 and Geometry End-of-Course exams. A math FAST test practice set should match your grade band.

START FAST PRACTICE TEST

🎯 What are the B.E.S.T. Standards?

B.E.S.T. stands for Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking, Florida's academic standards adopted in 2020. FAST measures these benchmarks, so a good FAST reading practice test uses B.E.S.T. reading skills: key ideas, author's craft, vocabulary in context and text structure.

START FAST PRACTICE TEST

📊 What do FAST Levels 1–5 mean?

FAST reports five achievement levels. Level 1 is Well Below Grade Level, Level 2 is Below Grade Level, Level 3 is On Grade Level, Level 4 is Proficient and Level 5 is Exemplary. Level 3 or higher is the on-grade-level target; grade 3 promotion requires at least Level 2 on PM3 ELA Reading.

START FAST PRACTICE TEST

🎓 Why does Grade 10 FAST ELA matter most?

The Grade 10 FAST ELA Reading test is a graduation requirement in Florida. Students must earn a scale score of 247 or higher (Level 3) on PM3, or a concordant SAT or ACT reading score. That is why a 10th grade FAST reading test practice set is the most searched FAST prep.

START FAST PRACTICE TEST

💻 How is FAST delivered?

FAST is a computer-adaptive test taken on the Cambium secure browser. Questions get harder or easier based on your answers, so two students in the same room see different items. Paper-based forms exist only as a documented IEP or Section 504 accommodation.

START FAST PRACTICE TEST

🧩 What question types appear on FAST Reading?

Expect multiple choice, multiselect, evidence-based selected response (pick an answer, then the sentence that proves it), hot text highlighting and table matching. A FAST reading practice test that mixes these formats prepares you better than multiple choice alone.

START FAST PRACTICE TEST

⏱️ How long is a FAST test session?

Each FAST test is one session on one day. The 2026-27 scheduled session is 90 minutes for ELA Reading (120 in PM3), 80 minutes for grades 3-5 Math (100 in PM3) and 100 minutes for grades 6-8 Math (120 in PM3), and students still working may continue until the end of the school day.

🆓 Where can I take a free Florida FAST practice test?

The free FAST practice tests on this page cover every reading and math strand with explanations, and the official Florida Statewide Assessments Portal (flfast.org) offers sample items in the real test interface. Use both before PM1, PM2 and PM3.

START FAST PRACTICE TEST

Florida FAST Test Practice Free: Reading Practice by Grade, Including 10th Grade

Every Florida FAST test practice free set on this page is organized the way the state organizes the assessment. FAST ELA Reading is given in grades 3 through 10 and FAST Mathematics in grades 3 through 8; kindergarten through grade 2 use the Star Early Literacy and Star Reading assessments instead. All grades test three times a year in the PM1 (fall), PM2 (winter) and PM3 (spring) windows, and PM3 is the score that counts for accountability, grade 3 promotion and the grade 10 graduation requirement.

A FAST reading practice test for 10th grade matters most because the grade 10 FAST ELA Reading is the assessment students must pass (Achievement Level 3 or higher) to earn a standard high school diploma. Grade 10 passages are longer and paired more often, and questions lean on evidence-based selected response, multiselect and hot-text items rather than simple multiple choice, so practice with those formats rather than only reading comprehension drills.

Searching for a FAST reading practice test for grade 11? There is no grade 11 FAST. Grade 11 students who have not yet met the reading requirement retake the grade 10 FAST ELA Reading in a retake window or use a concordant SAT or ACT score, and the other grade 11 state tests are the B.E.S.T. Algebra 1 and Geometry, Biology and U.S. History end-of-course exams. Use the grade 10 reading set above for that retake.

Sample FAST - Florida State Assessment Readiness Practice Questions

Try these questions from our free FAST - Florida State Assessment Readiness practice tests. The correct answer and an explanation follow each question.

  1. A student with an IEP is approved for the text-to-speech accommodation for their FAST ELA Reading assessment. When the student begins the test, the Test Administrator notices the accommodation is not enabled in the testing platform. What is the most appropriate first step for the Test Administrator to take?

    • A. Tell the student to continue without the accommodation to avoid a disruption.
    • B. Read the test passages and questions aloud to the student.
    • C. Pause the student's test, stop the session for that student, and immediately contact the School Assessment Coordinator.
    • D. Allow the student to use a separate text-to-speech software on their device.

Answer: C. Pause the student's test, stop the session for that student, and immediately contact the School Assessment Coordinator.

If a prescribed accommodation is not available or functioning correctly, the Test Administrator must pause the test and contact the School Assessment Coordinator. The coordinator is responsible for ensuring accommodations are correctly assigned before testing continues. Reading the test aloud without authorization or using unapproved software would be a security violation.

  • During a FAST Mathematics assessment, a proctor observes a student using a smartwatch with a calculator function. The Test Administrator is notified, secures the device, and reports the incident to the School Assessment Coordinator. This situation will most likely result in which outcome for the student's test?

    • A. The student's test score will be invalidated.
    • B. The student will be given extra time to compensate for the disruption.
    • C. The student's test will be paused and resumed the next day.
    • D. The student will be moved to a different room to finish the test.
  • Answer: A. The student's test score will be invalidated.

Using an unapproved electronic device, such as a smartwatch, is a form of cheating and a severe breach of test security. The standard procedure for such an incident is to invalidate the student's test for that administration.

  • Before students can log in to a FAST assessment using their test tickets, what is the required action a Test Administrator must complete in the Test Administrator Interface?

    • A. Administer a practice test to all students.
    • B. Start the specific test session that students will be joining.
    • C. Verify each student's home address and phone number.
    • D. Submit the final scores for the previous testing window.
  • Answer: B. Start the specific test session that students will be joining.

The Test Administrator must first log into the Test Administrator Interface and explicitly start the testing session. This action 'opens' the session, allowing students' login credentials from their test tickets to be authenticated so they can begin the test.

  • A student is taking a FAST assessment when their computer freezes. The student raises their hand to notify the Test Administrator. What should be the Test Administrator's immediate course of action?

    • A. Tell the student to wait quietly until all other students have finished their tests.
    • B. Invalidate the student's test due to a technical malfunction.
    • C. Instruct the student to write down their answers on paper until the issue is resolved.
    • D. Attempt to resolve the issue by rebooting the computer or moving the student to a new workstation to resume the test.
  • Answer: D. Attempt to resolve the issue by rebooting the computer or moving the student to a new workstation to resume the test.

For technical issues like a frozen computer, the Test Administrator's manual outlines procedures for troubleshooting. This typically involves restarting the device or moving the student to a functional computer. The test is designed to be resumed from the point of interruption once the student logs back in.
