Solve for x: 3x + 7 = 22
Answer: 5
Subtract 7 from both sides: 3x = 15, then divide by 3: x = 5.
What is the slope of the line passing through (2, 3) and (6, 11)?
Answer: 2
Slope = (11 − 3) / (6 − 2) = 8/4 = 2.
Factor completely: x² − 9
Answer: (x − 3)(x + 3)
x² − 9 is a difference of squares: (x − 3)(x + 3).
If f(x) = 2x² − 3x + 1, what is f(2)?
Answer: 3
f(2) = 2(4) − 3(2) + 1 = 8 − 6 + 1 = 3.
Solve the inequality: 2x − 5 > 9
Answer: x > 7
Add 5: 2x > 14, then divide by 2: x > 7.
What is the y-intercept of the line y = 3x − 4?
Answer: −4
In slope-intercept form y = mx + b, the y-intercept is b = −4.
