  1. A patrol officer completes a report every 45 minutes. In an 8-hour shift, how many complete reports can the officer finish?

    Answer: 10

    8 hours = 480 minutes; 480 ÷ 45 = 10.67, so 10 complete reports.

  2. A crime scene covers a rectangular area measuring 24 feet by 15 feet. What is the perimeter of the secured area?

    Answer: 78 feet

    Perimeter = 2 × (24 + 15) = 2 × 39 = 78 feet.

  3. An officer issued 7 tickets on Monday, 4 on Tuesday, 9 on Wednesday, 5 on Thursday, and 10 on Friday. What is the daily average?

    Answer: 7

    Total = 7 + 4 + 9 + 5 + 10 = 35; average = 35 ÷ 5 = 7.

  4. A police vehicle depreciates 15% per year. If it is worth $32,000 today, what will it be worth after one year?

    Answer: $27,200

    $32,000 × 0.15 = $4,800 loss; $32,000 − $4,800 = $27,200.

  5. A suspect's car travels at 75 mph with a 15-minute head start. Police travel at 90 mph. How many minutes after police begin pursuit will they catch the suspect?

    Answer: 75 minutes

    Head-start distance = 75 × (15/60) = 18.75 miles; closing speed = 90 − 75 = 15 mph; catch time = 18.75 ÷ 15 = 1.25 hours = 75 minutes.

  6. A theft totals $1,350. Three suspects split the goods equally and each sells their share for 40% less than face value. How much does each suspect receive?

    Answer: $270

    Each share = $1,350 ÷ 3 = $450; sold at 60% of face value = $450 × 0.60 = $270.

  7. Of 200 law enforcement applicants, 35% pass the written exam. Of those, 40% pass the physical test. How many applicants pass both?

    Answer: 28

    Pass written: 200 × 0.35 = 70; pass physical: 70 × 0.40 = 28.
