    Answer: $1,750

    125 × 14 = $1,750.

  2. A fence requires posts every 4 metres. How many posts are needed for a 60-metre perimeter fence (one post at each corner, no overlapping)?

    Answer: 15

    60 ÷ 4 = 15 posts.

  3. If 5 identical vehicles cost $87,500 in total, what is the cost of 3 of them?

    Answer: $52,500

    One vehicle = $87,500 ÷ 5 = $17,500; three = $17,500 × 3 = $52,500.

  4. A map has a scale of 1:50,000. A road on the map is 6 cm long. What is the actual length in km?

    Answer: 3 km

    6 cm × 50,000 = 300,000 cm = 3 km.

  5. What is the remainder when 137 is divided by 9?

    Answer: 5

    137 ÷ 9 = 15 remainder 2… 9 × 15 = 135; 137 − 135 = 2.

  6. A patrol covers 12 km in the first hour and 9 km in the second hour. What is the average speed over the two hours?

    Answer: 10.5 km/h

    Total distance = 21 km over 2 hours; 21 ÷ 2 = 10.5 km/h.

  7. A container holds 3/8 of its capacity. If its full capacity is 96 litres, how many litres does it currently hold?

    Answer: 36 L

    3/8 × 96 = 36 litres.
