  1. A triangular plot of land has a base of 24 m and a height of 15 m. What is its area?

    Answer: 180 m²

    Area = ½ × base × height = ½ × 24 × 15 = 180 m².

  2. The average of five test scores is 74. Four scores are 68, 79, 81, and 72. What is the fifth score?

    Answer: 70

    Total needed = 5 × 74 = 370; sum of four scores = 300; fifth = 370 − 300 = 70.

  3. A soldier marches 30 km north then 40 km east. What is the straight-line distance from the starting point?

    Answer: 50 km

    Using the Pythagorean theorem: √(30² + 40²) = √2,500 = 50 km.

  4. A cylindrical storage drum has a radius of 0.5 m and a height of 2 m. What is its volume? (Use π ≈ 3.14)

    Answer: 1.57 m³

    V = π × r² × h = 3.14 × 0.25 × 2 = 1.57 m³.

  5. A patrol departs at 14:45 and the mission lasts 3 hours 40 minutes. What time does the patrol return?

    Answer: 18:25

    14:45 + 3 hours = 17:45; 17:45 + 40 minutes = 18:25.

  6. What is 30% of 25% of 800?

    Answer: 60

    25% of 800 = 200; 30% of 200 = 60.

  7. A fence requires 3 posts for every 4 meters of length. How many posts are needed for a 60-meter perimeter?

    Answer: 45

    Number of posts = (60 ÷ 4) × 3 = 15 × 3 = 45.
