A military convoy travels 240 km in 3 hours. What is its average speed?
Answer: 80 km/h
Average speed = distance ÷ time = 240 ÷ 3 = 80 km/h.
A soldier uses 40% of his rations on day 1, then 25% of the remainder on day 2. What percentage of the original rations remains?
Answer: 45%
After day 1, 60% remains; 60% × 75% = 45% of original.
If 3 soldiers can set up camp in 6 hours, how long would 9 soldiers take at the same rate?
Answer: 2 hours
Total work = 3 × 6 = 18 soldier-hours; 18 ÷ 9 soldiers = 2 hours.
A map has a scale of 1:50,000. Two points are 4 cm apart on the map. What is the actual distance?
Answer: 2 km
4 cm × 50,000 = 200,000 cm = 2,000 m = 2 km.
A magazine holds 48 rounds. A soldier fires 1/3 in the morning and 1/4 of the remainder in the afternoon. How many rounds remain?
Answer: 24
After morning: 48 − 16 = 32; after afternoon: 32 − 8 = 24 rounds remain.
What is the next number in the sequence: 3, 7, 15, 31, 63, ?
Answer: 127
Each term is doubled and 1 is added: 63 × 2 + 1 = 127.
A squad of 12 soldiers shares 96 kg of equipment equally. If 4 soldiers are reassigned, how much more must each remaining soldier carry?
Answer: 4 kg
Original share: 96 ÷ 12 = 8 kg; new share: 96 ÷ 8 = 12 kg; difference = 4 kg.
