  1. A store's monthly sales (in thousands): Jan=42, Feb=38, Mar=45, Apr=50, May=47. What is the median monthly sales value?

    Answer: $45,000

    When sorted (38, 42, 45, 47, 50), the middle value is 45, so median = $45,000.

  2. A pie chart shows a company's expenses: Salaries 40%, Rent 25%, Supplies 15%, Marketing 12%, Other 8%. If total expenses are $200,000, how much is spent on Rent and Supplies combined?

    Answer: $80,000

    Rent (25%) + Supplies (15%) = 40% of $200,000 = $80,000.

  3. A line graph shows temperature readings at 6am=58°F, 9am=64°F, 12pm=72°F, 3pm=76°F, 6pm=68°F. Between which consecutive time points did temperature rise the most?

    Answer: 9am to 12pm

The rise from 9am to 12pm is 8°F, which is greater than the 6°F rise from 6am to 9am.

  4. A table shows test scores for 4 students: Alex=82, Beth=91, Carlos=78, Dana=89. A new student joins with a score of 95. What happens to the group average?

    Answer: Increases by 2.8 points

    Original average = (82+91+78+89)/4 = 85; new average = (340+95)/5 = 87; increase = 2.8 points.

  5. A bar chart shows quarterly profits: Q1=$15K, Q2=$22K, Q3=$18K, Q4=$25K. What percentage of the annual profit came from Q4?

    Answer: 31.25%

    Total = $80K; Q4 share = 25/80 = 0.3125 = 31.25%.

  6. A scatter plot shows hours studied vs. exam scores. As hours increase from 1 to 5, scores rise from 55 to 85. Approximately what score would be predicted for 3 hours of study?

    Answer: 70

    The linear trend rises 30 points over 4 hours (7.5 pts/hr), so 3 hours ≈ 55 + (2×7.5) = 70.

  7. A frequency table shows commute times: Under 15 min (8 people), 15–30 min (14 people), 30–45 min (10 people), Over 45 min (8 people). What fraction of commuters travel 30 minutes or more?

    Answer: 9/20

    Commuters with 30+ min = 10+8 = 18; total = 40; fraction = 18/40 = 9/20.
