Total parts = 4+7 = 11. Red = (4/11) × 77 = 28.
After a 20% increase, a salary becomes $48,000. What was the original salary?
Answer: $40,000
Original × 1.20 = 48,000 → Original = 48,000/1.20 = $40,000.
If x:y = 5:8 and y = 40, what is x?
Answer: 25
5/8 = x/40 → x = 5 × 40/8 = 25.
A store charges a 8% sales tax. If an item costs $25, what is the total price with tax?
Answer: $27.00
Tax = 8% × $25 = $2.00. Total = $25 + $2.00 = $27.00.
A machine produces 120 items in 4 hours. At this rate, how many items does it produce in 9 hours?
Answer: 270
Rate = 120/4 = 30 items/hour. In 9 hours: 30 × 9 = 270 items.
What number is 60% of 150?
Answer: 90
60% × 150 = 0.60 × 150 = 90.
