Maria drives 330 miles in 5.5 hours. Ben drives at a speed 10 mph faster than Maria. How many miles does Ben drive in 4 hours?
Answer: 280 miles
Maria's speed = 330 ÷ 5.5 = 60 mph; Ben's speed = 70 mph; Ben's distance = 70 × 4 = 280 miles.
A 45-gram sample of a substance contains 0.9 grams of a trace element. How many grams of the trace element would be in a 300-gram sample of the same substance?

Ratio = 0.9 ÷ 45 = 0.02; trace element in 300 g = 0.02 × 300 = 6 g.

Dogs = (4/7) × 77 = 44; total = 77 + 44 = 121.
An object has a mass of 96 grams and a volume of 12 cm³. Another object of the same material has a volume of 20 cm³. What is its mass?
Answer: 160 g
Density = 96 ÷ 12 = 8 g/cm³; mass = 8 × 20 = 160 g.
A factory produces 1,440 items in 8 hours. At this rate, how many items are produced in 5 hours and 30 minutes?

Rate = 1,440 ÷ 8 = 180 items/hr; 5.5 hr × 180 = 990 items.
