An object of mass 2 kg moves at 6 m/s. What is its kinetic energy?
Answer: 36 J
KE = ½mv² = ½ × 2 × 6² = ½ × 2 × 36 = 36 J.
A net force of 15 N acts on a 3 kg object. What is the object's acceleration?
Answer: 5 m/s²
Using Newton's second law: a = F/m = 15 N ÷ 3 kg = 5 m/s².
Work done on an object equals 200 J and the displacement is 10 m. What force was applied (parallel to displacement)?
Answer: 20 N
F = W/d = 200 J ÷ 10 m = 20 N.
An electric motor lifts a 10 kg load 4 m in 5 seconds (g = 10 m/s²). What is the power of the motor?
Answer: 80 W
Work = mgh = 10×10×4 = 400 J; Power = 400 J ÷ 5 s = 80 W.
A stone is dropped from a height of 20 m (g = 10 m/s²). What is its speed just before it hits the ground?
Answer: 20 m/s
Using energy conservation: mgh = ½mv² → v = √(2gh) = √(2×10×20) = √400 = 20 m/s.
Two forces of 8 N and 6 N act on an object in perpendicular directions. What is the resultant force?
Answer: 10 N
Resultant = √(8² + 6²) = √(64 + 36) = √100 = 10 N.
If a machine has an efficiency of 80% and the input energy is 500 J, what is the useful output energy?
Answer: 400 J
Useful output = efficiency × input = 0.80 × 500 J = 400 J.
