A court schedule lists 12 cases per day. If a judge works 4 days per week for 40 weeks per year, how many cases does the judge hear per year?
Answer: 1,920
12 × 4 × 40 = 1,920 cases per year.
A law firm has a target of billing $50,000 per month. In January, they billed $44,000. By what percentage did they miss their target?
Answer: 12%
Shortfall = 6,000; percentage = (6,000 / 50,000) × 100 = 12%.
A paralegal must photocopy 480 pages. The copier prints 20 pages per minute. How many minutes will it take?
Answer: 24 minutes
480 ÷ 20 = 24 minutes.
Three lawyers share an office rental cost of $3,600 per month. One lawyer uses 50% of the space and the other two share the rest equally. How much does each of the two smaller-share lawyers pay?
Answer: $900
Large-share lawyer pays 50% = $1,800; remaining $1,800 is split 2 ways = $900 each.
A statute comes into force 90 days after Royal Assent on 1 January. On what date does it come into force?
Answer: 1 April
January has 31 days (30 remaining after day 1), February 28 days, and March 31 days: 30 + 28 + 31 = 89; add 1 more day = 1 April.
