  1. A tank holds 500 gallons of water and is losing 12 gallons per hour through a leak. How many hours until only 260 gallons remain?

    Answer: 20 hours

    Water lost = 500 - 260 = 240 gallons. Time = 240 ÷ 12 = 20 hours.

  2. If a uniform costs $45.50 and a soldier needs to buy 4 uniforms, what is the total cost?

    Answer: $182.00

    Total cost = 4 × $45.50 = $182.00.

  3. A rope that is 36 feet long is cut into pieces that are each 4.5 feet long. How many pieces are there?

    Answer: 8

    Number of pieces = 36 ÷ 4.5 = 8 pieces.

  4. A platoon of 32 soldiers needs to be divided into squads of 8. How many squads will there be?

    Answer: 4

    Number of squads = 32 ÷ 8 = 4 squads.

  5. A training exercise covers a triangular course with sides of 3.2 km, 4.5 km, and 5.3 km. What is the total distance of the course?

    Answer: 13.0 km

    Perimeter = 3.2 + 4.5 + 5.3 = 13.0 km.

  6. If a vehicle travels at 55 miles per hour, how far will it travel in 3.5 hours?

    Answer: 192.5 miles

    Distance = speed × time = 55 × 3.5 = 192.5 miles.
