Answer: $2,040
15% of $2,400 is $360, so $2,400 – $360 = $2,040 take-home pay.
A truck travels 300 miles on 15 gallons of fuel. At the same fuel efficiency, how many gallons are needed to travel 500 miles?
Answer: 25 gallons
Fuel efficiency is 300/15 = 20 mpg, so 500 ÷ 20 = 25 gallons needed.
A rectangular field is 120 yards long and 80 yards wide. What is its area in square yards?
Answer: 9,600
Area = length × width = 120 × 80 = 9,600 square yards.
If 5 soldiers can complete a task in 12 hours, how long would it take 10 soldiers working at the same rate?
Answer: 6 hours
Doubling the workforce halves the time: 12 ÷ 2 = 6 hours.
A store sells boots for $85. During a sale, the price is reduced by 20%. What is the sale price?
Answer: $68
20% of $85 is $17, so the sale price is $85 – $17 = $68.
A tank holds 240 gallons and is currently 3/8 full. How many gallons are needed to fill it completely?
Answer: 150 gallons
The tank has 3/8 × 240 = 90 gallons, so it needs 240 – 90 = 150 more gallons.
A convoy travels at an average speed of 45 mph. How long will it take to travel 315 miles?
Answer: 7 hours
Time = Distance ÷ Speed = 315 ÷ 45 = 7 hours.
