What does the x-intercept of a line represent?
Answer: Where the line crosses the x-axis
The x-intercept is the point where the line intersects the x-axis, meaning y = 0.
Solve: -3x = 12
Answer: x = -4
Divide both sides by -3 to get x = -4.
Which equation is parallel to y = 5x + 2?
Answer: y = 5x - 7
Parallel lines have the same slope; y = 5x - 7 also has slope 5.
Solve for x: x + 14 = 9
Answer: x = -5
Subtract 14 from both sides to get x = -5.
A line passes through (0, 4) and (2, 0). What is its slope?
Answer: -2
Slope = (0 - 4)/(2 - 0) = -4/2 = -2.
Solve: 10 - 3x = 1
Answer: x = 3
Subtract 10 from both sides to get -3x = -9, then divide by -3 to get x = 3.
