    Answer: 30

    240 ÷ 8 = 30 miles per gallon.

  2. A shirt originally costs $60 and is on sale for 25% off. What is the sale price?

    Answer: $45

    25% of $60 = $15 discount; $60 − $15 = $45 sale price.

  3. A box contains red and blue marbles. There are 12 red marbles and the ratio of red to blue is 3:2. How many blue marbles are there?

    Answer: 8

    If red:blue = 3:2 and red = 12, then blue = 12 × (2/3) = 8.

  4. A classroom has 5 rows of desks with 6 desks in each row. If 4 desks are empty, how many students are seated?

    Answer: 26

    5 × 6 = 30 total desks; 30 − 4 = 26 students seated.

  5. A train travels 180 miles in 3 hours. At the same speed, how far will it travel in 5 hours?

    Answer: 300 miles

    Speed = 180 ÷ 3 = 60 mph; 60 × 5 = 300 miles.

  6. If 3 pens cost $4.50, how much do 7 pens cost?

    Answer: $10.50

    One pen = $4.50 ÷ 3 = $1.50; 7 × $1.50 = $10.50.

  7. A square room has a perimeter of 48 feet. What is its area?

    Answer: 144 square feet

    Each side = 48 ÷ 4 = 12 feet; area = 12 × 12 = 144 square feet.
