What changed for AAT Level 2 in 2026

  • 1 September 2026 – Fees rose for 2026/27. The AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting now costs £187 to register (UK) plus £67 per unit assessment for ITBK, POBC and PCTN and £72 for the BESY synoptic – £460 in total. Remote invigilation adds £41 per assessment. (source)
  • 1 September 2026 – Qualification specification updated to v5.6. Enquiries and appeals (review of marking) wording was updated and "Q2022" labelling removed; the four units, 255 GLH / 340 TQT and assessment structure are unchanged. (source)

What is the AAT L2 exam?
The AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting is the entry-level accounting qualification awarded by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) in the UK. Under the current (Q2022) syllabus it has four mandatory units: Introduction to Bookkeeping, Principles of Bookkeeping Controls, Principles of Costing and The Business Environment synoptic. Each unit is a computer-based assessment booked on demand at an AAT approved training provider or assessment venue, or by remote invigilation. It replaced the old Foundation Certificate in Accounting.
How do I register for the AAT L2?
You register as an AAT student through an AAT approved training provider. For 2026/27 (from 1 September 2026) the UK registration fee is £187, plus assessment fees of £67 per unit and £72 for the synoptic, £460 in total. Assessments are booked on demand at an approved centre or by remote invigilation (+£41).
