  1. What is the value of −8 + (−5) − (−3)?

    Answer: −10

    −8 + (−5) = −13. Then −13 − (−3) = −13 + 3 = −10.

  2. A shirt originally costs $40. It is on sale for 25% off. What is the sale price?

    Answer: $30

    25% of $40 = 0.25 × 40 = $10 discount. Sale price = $40 − $10 = $30.

  3. Two angles are supplementary. One angle measures 65°. What is the measure of the other angle?

    Answer: 115°

    Supplementary angles sum to 180°. The other angle = 180° − 65° = 115°.

  4. Solve for x: 3x − 7 = 14

    Answer: 7

    Add 7 to both sides: 3x = 21. Divide by 3: x = 7.

  5. A circle has a diameter of 10 inches. What is its circumference? (Use π ≈ 3.14)

    Answer: 31.4 inches

    Circumference = π × diameter = 3.14 × 10 = 31.4 inches.

  6. A bag contains 4 red, 3 blue, and 3 yellow marbles. If one marble is drawn at random, what is the probability of NOT drawing a red marble?

    Answer: 3/5

    Total marbles = 10. Non-red marbles = 3 + 3 = 6. Probability = 6/10 = 3/5.
